Whether you’re installing a HVAC system in your new Fort Worth and Arlington area home or you’re upgrading the system in an older home, a well-designed duct system is important for maximum comfort and efficiency.
A duct system is used to carry air from your air conditioner, furnace or heat pump to the areas in your house where you live. If your duct system is the wrong size or design to fit your HVAC system and home, you will lose both comfort and money. Badly designed ducts will deliver too much air in some areas of your home and too little in other areas. Not only are you uncomfortable with these results, but you also end up working your HVAC system more to compensate. This uses more energy that you pay for on your utility bills.
A well-designed duct system has five objectives: comfort, proper air distribution, economical installation and economical heating and cooling. Since the whole purpose of having an HVAC system and ductwork is to keep your home at a comfortable temperature year-round, a primary objective of a good duct system is to maximize your comfort. That means making sure that every room gets enough air to keep it cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather. The supply and return, or uptake, of air also have to be balanced so that air pressure remains neutral throughout the house.
Correctly sized ducts will properly distribute air throughout your home. Ducts that are the wrong size, or that have too many bends that impede air flow, will force your HVAC system to work harder to meet your home’s heating and cooling needs. This in turn impacts the system’s energy efficiency, making it less economical to operate.
